5 Days Trekking

A 5-day, 4-night jungle trek in Bukit Lawang takes you deep into the heart of Gunung Leuser National Park, offering a true off-the-beaten-path wilderness experience

Day 1: Village & Entering the Lower Jungle

  • Time: Starts at 09:00 AM after breakfast.
  • Route: Walk through Bukit Lawang village, pass rubber plantations, and enter the national park.
  • Activities: Trek for about 4–6 hours with ups and downs. Look for semi-wild and wild Sumatran orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, and gibbons.
  • Overnight: Camp 1 by a jungle stream/river with tents, mattresses, and campfire cooking.

Day 2: Deeper into the Untouched Rainforest

  • Time: Morning departure after camp breakfast.
  • Route: Leave the well-trodden tourist trails behind and move along animal-shaped jungle paths.
  • Activities: Hike through denser interior terrain (4–6 hours), exploring ridges and valleys, spotting endemic birds (like hornbills and great argus), and learning about medicinal jungle plants.
  • Overnight: Camp 2 at a remote deep-jungle campsite.

Day 3: Mountainous Interior & Waterfall/Cave Exploration

  • Time: Full day in the wilderness.
  • Activities: Trek through the mountainous interior. Visit hidden waterfalls or jungle streams for swimming, search for tracks of elusive wildlife (such as Sumatran elephants or tiger footprints), and enjoy a wilderness night-walk with your guide to spot slow lorises and insects.
  • Overnight: Camp 3 deeper along the interior riverbanks.

Day 4: Deep Jungle Trek & Final Remote Camp

  • Time: Day-long trek.
  •  Activities: Continue tracking wildlife, crossing small rivers, and observing wild orchids and giant flora. Your local guides cook traditional Indonesian meals over an open fire.
  • Overnight: Camp 4 at your final campsite closer to the return route

Day 5: Final Morning Trek & River Tubing Return

  • Time: Morning through afternoon.
  • Activities: Short morning walk or wildlife check, followed by a traditional Bohorok River tube-rafting (river tubing) ride lasting about 1 to 2 hours back down the river to Bukit Lawang.
  • End: Arrive back in Bukit Lawang by the afternoon with free time to relax or depart.
